COVID-19 Update

December 31, 2020

Dear Residents, Families, Community, and Employees,

As we are on the Eve of the New Year, we have so much to be hopeful for that the vaccine and continued knowledge of the COVID-19 virus will provide a brighter year ahead. While we have light at the end of the tunnel, we are very aware of the difficult journey that this year has been and that this journey is not over. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of one of our Fairlawn Independent Living Residents who passed away after testing positive for COVID.

We are grateful for our Residents who are the most vulnerable and our Staff who have demonstrated dedication and care throughout the pandemic to be provided the opportunity to protect themselves and their families. Information shared by Governor DeWine yesterday encouraged those individuals who have this privilege to accept the vaccine with urgency if their choice is to be vaccinated, as with limited supply it is unclear when the opportunity will be available in the future.

We encourage as many residents and staff as possible to get this vaccine. Older adults have a much higher risk for getting very sick, being hospitalized, or dying from COVID-19. The vaccine has been shown to provide a great deal of protection against serious illness due to COVID-19. We also know that our current visitation for Residents and Families is contingent on testing results and outbreak. For Nursing Care, we are not permitted to allow indoor visitation if we have any positive results. For our other levels of care, the mandate is that we can only allow visitation if we can safely do so and must utilize testing results to make that determination. The more residents and staff that get vaccinated, the better we can protect our community against potential outbreaks and save lives.

Information to assist you in making an informed decision can be found at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines.

Testing/Exposure Updates

Fairlawn Campus

Two Employees who work in Assisted Living have tested positive for COVID-19 as a result of independent testing. Based on tracing of Resident contact and use of PPE, we do not believe that any further testing is indicated.

Based on PCR testing performed on Tuesday and rapid testing performed today, we have received one positive PCR test of a skilled nursing employee. One Resident PCR test is currently still pending.

Wadsworth and Green

PCR testing was performed yesterday. Any positive results will be communicated.

Visitation

As always, our goal will continue to be to support visitation between Residents and Families within the guidelines established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), when those visits can be safely accommodated.

At this time, our Visitation will be changed as follows:

Fairlawn Community:
• Independent Living visitation will resume on December 30th. We ask that visitors be limited to 2 visitors during the hours of 9a m- 7 pm. We advise that Residents and visitors remain in a mask at all times and keep 6 feet of distance. Visitation is only permitted in individual Resident apartments.
• Memory Care and Assisted Living Residents visitation is permitted
• Nursing Care will begin to allow window visits from the Gathering Space. Indoor visitation will remain suspended due to the regulatory requirement that we achieve 14 days without any positive COVID-19 test results
Wadsworth Community:
• Independent Residents will be permitted visitors. We ask that visitors be limited to 2 visitors during the hours of 9a m- 7 pm. We advise that Residents and visitors remain in a mask at all times and keep 6 feet of distance. Visitation is only permitted in individual Resident apartments.

• Employees are trained on the importance of handwashing and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment
• Routine COVID-19 testing is conducted based on Federal and State Guidelines
• Employees/ Contractors are screened for signs and symptoms prior to entering any Village Community and not permitted to enter if they have an elevated temperature or report signs or symptoms of COVID-19
• Quarantine periods are strictly enforced for Employees who are exposed, are symptomatic or test positive for COVID-19
• Residents are monitored for signs and symptoms
• Upon receipt of positive test findings, our clinical team reviews (contact traces) to determine further intervention and need for strategic testing. Testing is scheduled based on exposure dates.
• Residents who are symptomatic or test positive are placed on Isolation Precautions
• Cleaning of high contact areas to reduce risk of exposure

Information regarding the number of positive cases may be accessed on ODH’s website
While we will not be sharing details publicly, we do share information regarding all of our positive cases with the CDC, CMS and the department of health.
