On Friday morning, June 2, 2017, ten members of the Christ Child Society of Akron gathered in the private dining room at the Village of St. Edward Assisted Living Center. The purpose of this lovely occasion was to honor three of their members who were unable to attend the May Salad Supper meeting on May 17th to receive their anniversary year honors. Of those who attended this June 2nd event, seven were residents at St. Edward’s; the others were their close friends from the chapter. The program was organized by Patsy Biddinger, a Christ Child member who also is a volunteer at St. Edward’s, and Micki Trenta, the chapter Historian.
During the program, two members were honored for their 50-years of chapter membership: Mary Kay Luby and Marilyn Stitz. They were presented with a rose, a certificate, and a crystal plate personalized with their name, the Christ Child logo, and their years of membership. Also honored was Jacqueline (Jackie) Stankard, a 55-year member, who received her rose and certificate. Mary Kay and Jackie are residents of St. Edward’s and Marilyn lives nearby in Akron. The other guests attending from St. Edward’s were Marie White, Pat Brunenmeister, Helen Antonucci (a 50-year member), Jeannine Morris, and Marie Giffels. They were joined by Kathy Seikel (a 50-year member) and Ann Traverse (a 60-year member) who had received their honors at the May Salad Supper. It was very special to be able to have all four of the 50-year honorees together for their group picture.
Patsy had provided a wonderfully decorated table and made a delicious coffeecake, muffins, and a fruit plate for everyone to enjoy. There was wonderful conversation involving the many memories each member had from their many years of service in the Christ Child Society. Micki had provided carnations for the other guests to show the chapter’s appreciation of their many years of membership as well. It was a privilege for the Christ Child Society of Akron to recognize and honor their long-time members and let them know what a treasure they are for our chapter!
