With many smiles and much excitement, on Tuesday, March 7, The Village of St. Edward welcomed James Wormald as its first resident of the newly opened Memory Care.

Jim and his family spent his first day meeting staff, becoming familiar with the new surroundings and enjoying activities specifically designed for residents with dementia. “We are so happy he is here” shared Jim’s daughter. “It’s like he is getting a new start to life!”

Offering privacy, dignity and specialized programming, the Memory Care neighborhood addresses specific needs of residents living with dementia. Staff members are specifically trained and welcome the opportunity to provide this new level of care. Each floor provides a safe, secure, walking area, and lots of natural light in a home-like setting.

In addition to customary Assisted Living amenities, each floor of Memory Care has a Snoezelen room. This controlled, multisensory environment includes fiber optic lighting, sensory items, music and a video projector showing calming images.

Within days, Jim was joined by six additional resident and several others are expected soon. The Village of St. Edward is pleased to provide this additional level of faith-based care and looks forward to being a resource to families.
