For this Catholic Community Connection spotlight, we feature The Village of St. Edward, in Fairlawn, Ohio.
The Village of St. Edward’s mission of supporting the lives of Residents through Christ-centered care allows them to create a community of support, compassion, acceptance, and dignity acted out daily through the actions of staff to residents, families and each other and in how they carry out their work.
As a nonprofit faith-driven organization, the care of the residents and treatment of the staff comes before all else at The Village. As both residents and staff are all valuable stakeholders who deserve consideration and respect, the culture of The Village promotes that staff follow the Golden Rule of treating others they way that they would like to be treated. The Village’s culture also heavily focuses on creating staff whose actions are guided by Compassion, Respect, Commitment, Integrity, and Benevolence; values that are common themes in Christ’s teachings.
In addition to their creation of a healthy culture, The Village’s significant achievements in providing superior care have facilitated growth. In 2016, The Village of St. Edward opened their Memory Care unit, which features a state-of-the-art care technology within a comfortable, home-style atmosphere that allows residents in need of specialized care to enjoy a better quality of life. At the same time, The Village began construction for a new community in Wadsworth (opening later in 2018) that will offer Independent, Assisted and Memory Care to older adults.
The Village has exciting developments in store for 2018 and 2019. As mentioned, the Wadsworth location is set to open later in 2018 and The Village also expects to break ground in 2018 for their location in Green (set to open in 2019). The Village of St. Edward also believes in supporting the education of students in many ways. The Village offers opportunities for clinical training through local nursing schools, physician residency programs, and internships for students looking to enhance their professional learning and their knowledge of Senior Care. The Village of St. Edward, a Partner Organization of Catholic Community Connection, participates in its Summer Fellows Program to source talented interns for a wide variety of fields.
The Village has considered the investment in these expansions and programs to serve a dual-purpose of providing additional value to the current and future residents in their communities and to provide security and sustainability for the long-term future of The Village of St. Edward.
